On time and on budget for NCR’s supermarket checkout upgrade.


Time was of the essence when NCR won a large project for the refurbishment of sales checkouts in 749 stores for one of Australia’s leading supermarket chains. This massive undertaking had a short, 14 week timetable that needed to be completed by the non-negotiable Christmas closeout period. Added to this was the need for all activity to be conducted between 10.00 pm to 7.00 am each day.


Recognising a project of this magnitude required expert input, NCR approached Best Technology Services for complete project fulfilment.
Our IT deployment and service execution experience, combined with its scale and capacity, meant we could offer NCR a fixed price solution for the job and guaranteed outcomes.

Mindful of the time constraints, Best Technology Services assembled an elite team of 70 qualified engineers in just four working days. We also put in place a 24 hour PMO at 3 days’ notice to co-ordinate and manage all field activities. This gave NCR confidence the project would receive around the clock monitoring, with escalations kept to an absolute minimum and dealt with in real time.


The supermarket chain was impressed with the project’s consistent and rapid progress, with 400 checkout lanes per night being fully refurbished to its complete satisfaction.

Because we could take responsibility for the delivery and installation of each set of components ­ 100,000 individual pieces of equipment ­ NCR were able to focus on client management and reporting.

And despite 110,000 kilometres of engineer travel and more than 27,000 hours, the project came in on budget and on time.
